The DMA predicts that spending on direct marketing campaigns will increase to $163 billion in 2011, which amounts to a 5.6% increase over 2010 and accounts for 52% of all US advertising spending. Naturally, these increases are being driven by digital marketing. The DMA Expects mobile marketing to increase by ~50% this year, while social media marketing will increase by ~20%.
If you hold one of the 9.2 million jobs supported by the direct marketing industry, you should thank God that your industry is one of the bright spots in our economy. You should also be working as hard as you can to gain meaningful experience in mobile marketing, social media marketing, and transactional ecommerce.
